In the modern world, polygamy is a very common phenomenon. And although it has captured the representatives of the weaker sex, the leading position in this matter remains for the male part of the population. It is believed that male loyalty depends on the behavior of women in the family. His every attempt to “go to the left” is explained by his wife’s “bad” behavior or sexual dissatisfaction in family relationships.
But experts from the London Institute of Economics have denied this stereotype. They conducted a study in which they established a link between the intellectual level of a man and his penchant for betrayal. It turned out that smart husbands are much less likely to cheat on their spouse.
What is the reason for such a pattern? British scientists argue that a man with a high level of intelligence will not start a lover on the side, because in social terms, monogamy is the most profitable and safe version of the relationship between partners. But only clever representatives of the male population can realize this fact.
If we trace the history of evolution, we can see that male polygamy is gradually replaced by monogamy. Sex with one woman is considered the best and optimal model of intimate behavior. They relieve a man of the need to constantly search for a new partner, reduce the level of stress, feelings and help keep the nervous system in good condition. The American psychologist Michael Diamond has his own opinion on the question of what determines the loyalty of a man. He believes male monogamy or polygamy is formed from childhood. It all depends on the model of family relationships, which the boy observes at a young age. If in family relationships love and dedication of the mother’s father reigns, then in the future the son will try to adopt this example into his family life.
